2017 Community Partner in Education - Gordon Hendrick of Superior

Mr. Gordon Hendrick, resident of Superior, was selected as the recipient of the 2017-18 Montana Association of Secondary School Principals’ (MASSP) Community Partner in Education Award at the annual MASSP Spring Conference held in Helena, April 6-7.  This award is presented to a private citizen outside of the professional educational organization who consistently supports education and youth through his/her involvement in activities or projects that truly impact the schools and communities.

Mr. Hendrick has been described as an invaluable resource to the staff and students at Superior School District.  As a two term state legislator in the House of Representatives, Mr. Hendrick has always been an advocate for public education and its success.  He volunteers his time as a program coordinator placing high school students in job shadow experiences with the local businesses and assisting students with their involvement in meaningful and significant work experiences. Mr. Hendrick has also stepped in as an interim music director, an industrial arts teacher, and has filled substitute teaching roles for the school countless times, providing his services whenever there was a need.

In his nomination letter of Mr. Hendrick, Mr. Scott Kinney, Principal at Superior Elementary School stated, “We have all been blessed to share his love, humor and encouragement for just shy of two decades.  As he is “retiring” at the end of this school year, I can think of no higher honor or anyone more deserving of the 2017 MASSP Community Partner in Education Award.”

MASSP and the members of School Administrators of Montana (SAM) appreciate community partners in education across Montana and congratulate Mr. Gordon Hendrick on receiving this award.
